High Voltage / Dry ELD Testing

Depending on the site conditions, high voltage (dry method) electronic leak detection testing could be the best option when trying to determine if/where you might have breaches. Honza Group Inc. will consult with you to see what direction makes the most sense.  Below is a brief description of the testing process.  

 

SET-UP

  • Just like low voltage ELD, a power supply is connected and grounded to the building structure. 
  • The second lead is then attached to the electrode brush.
  • *It is important to note that the brush must be able to make contact with the roofing/waterproofing membrane.  Materials, Equipment, and Debris need to be removed from the roof area.  

 

TESTING

  • The electrode brush is swept over the membrane. 
  • If the electrode brush encounters a breach during the test, the circuit is completed and alerts the technician. 

 

REPORTING

  • The technician will be able to report any breaches or punctures through the waterproofing membrane, which acts as an electric insulator since the electric current will ground itself at the breach.

BUT WHY HIGH VOLTAGE AND NOT LOW VOLTAGE?

 

Both methods of testing are equally effective.  It is the job site conditions that dictate the method of Electronic Leak Detection that will be used.
